April Fools – The Best Day To Start Working Out
What a perfectly arbitrary day to start working out. Most people look forward to New Year’s as the day to change it all around but that may be the worst time to try and flip your fitness trends.
The problems with New Year’s Resolutions are that -
-They never seem to pan out so your brain is wired to botch it again
-It’s freezing outside and the gym is packed since everyone’s got a resolution
-You’re coming off a month of downing eggnog and advent calenders which means you are trying to reverse your habits at the point of most resistance
The great things about starting a fitness program on April Fool’s Day are that-
- It’s warming up outside and it’s an arbitrary time so the gym is empty
- It’s your first ‘fool’s resolution’ so the odds are stacked in your favor
- There is ten to twelve weeks before beach season so there is a target date involved and a realistic amount of time to lose 20 pounds of fat or gain ten pounds of muscle
As I mentioned in this older post it’s usually the dumb oaf who skips the analytics and just goes for it that ends up seeing the the most success. So whatever day you happen to be reading this just begin. Do five push-ups or jumping jacks for thirty seconds, then double it tomorrow, then double it again. You’ve made it past the three day hump and are well on your way.
